This course explores the life and writings of St. John Henry Newman, one of the giants of modern western history. His life touched some of the most important happenings of his day, and he continues to speak to many of the most important questions of Christian life in modernity. The course will be primarily a seminar, requiring extensive reading and active in-class discussion of Newman texts.
